Terms of Use
Last updated 2026-07-20.2
These Terms of Use govern your access to and use of this website (the "Platform"), operated by Midwestern Tech to run a local site of the GMTK Game Jam. By creating an account you agree to these Terms. Read them together with our Privacy Policy.
1. Purpose and acceptance
The Platform lets participants create an account, sign up for the game jam, and take part in the event organized and operated by Midwestern Tech. These Terms form a contract between you and Midwestern Tech.
Midwestern Tech operates the Platform and is legally responsible for the event. VIGIA is only the event's name and has no separate legal personality. WMDG supports the event by including it in its UFG community outreach activity (Atividade de Extensão); WMDG is not the Platform operator or a party to these Terms. Midwestern Tech's full registered details and official legal contact channel are still pending publication.
By checking the acceptance box at signup you confirm that you have read, understood, and agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not create an account or use the Platform.
2. Registration and account
To register you provide an e-mail address, a display name (codinome), a password, and your date of birth. You are responsible for keeping your credentials confidential and for the activity under your account.
- You must be at least 18 years old to register. The Platform does not accept minors as participants.
- The information you provide must be accurate and kept up to date.
- You may not create an account for someone else or impersonate anyone.
- Tell us if you suspect unauthorized use of your account.
3. User obligations and conduct
You agree to use the Platform lawfully and not to harm the event, other participants, or Midwestern Tech. The following are prohibited:
- Posting unlawful, offensive, or infringing content, or content that violates the rights of others.
- Trying to access accounts, data, or systems you are not authorized to access.
- Disrupting the Platform's operation or security, or using it to distribute malware.
- Using the Platform for unsolicited advertising or any purpose unrelated to the event.
Everyone at the event, including participants and organizers, must be treated with respect. Harassment, discrimination, homophobia, sexism, and hostility toward another person are prohibited.
Midwestern Tech may remove a participant from the venue or event, and may suspend or end Platform access, when the participant breaches these Terms or when removal is reasonably necessary to protect people or event safety. A serious conduct or safety violation may result in immediate removal without a prior warning.
4. Participation and game submissions
Participation is free. You may participate alone or in a team of up to four people. Participants must be at least 18 years old.
The official GMTK Game Jam rules and these local rules apply to every participant and submission:
- Create the game during the announced jam period and follow the announced theme. Do not bring a game made in advance specifically for this jam.
- You may reuse existing code and art or audio that you have the legal right to use. Credit every external asset in the submission.
- Do not use generative AI to produce art, sound, or music for the game. A game that does so is disqualified. AI may be used as a coding assistant.
- Submit before the announced deadline a game that runs on a Windows PC with a keyboard or mouse. Keep the game suitable for a general audience: no nudity, hateful content, or excessive gore.
5. Your content and intellectual property
You keep the rights to the content you add to your profile, such as your display name, bio, and avatar. By adding it, you grant Midwestern Tech a non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to display that content on the Platform in order to run and promote the event.
The Platform's name, layout, logos, and code belong to their respective owners or licensors and may not be copied or reused without permission. "GMTK Game Jam" and related marks belong to their respective owners; this is a community-run local site and is not the official organizer of the global jam.
6. Privacy and data protection
We process your personal data as described in our Privacy Policy, which explains what we collect, why, the legal bases, and your rights under the LGPD (Lei nº 13.709/2018). Accepting these Terms includes acknowledging that Policy.
7. Limitation of liability
The Platform is offered as-is for a non-commercial community event. To the extent permitted by law, Midwestern Tech is not liable for indirect damage or for interruptions, errors, or data loss outside its reasonable control. Nothing in these Terms limits rights that cannot be waived under the Código de Defesa do Consumidor or other applicable law.
8. Suspension and termination
You may stop using the Platform and ask us to delete your account at any time through the contact channel in the Privacy Policy. We may suspend or end access if you breach these Terms or when the event ends. Some records may be kept where the law requires or permits, as described in the Privacy Policy.
9. Changes, governing law, and jurisdiction
We may update these Terms. When we make a material change we will update the version shown at the top and, where appropriate, ask you to accept the new version. Continuing to use the Platform after a change means you accept the updated Terms.
These Terms are governed by Brazilian law. Mandatory rules on jurisdiction, including any consumer-protection forum available to you, apply.
